The recent election in Pakistan saw the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which has strong backing from the military and the support of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif unexpectedly challenged by independent candidates who did far better than expected, in spite of extensive harassment, some of whom were supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and its jailed leader Imran Khan.
We discuss with Asia Institute senior associate and geopolitical analyst Malik Ayub Sumbal the implications of this election domestically and internationally.
