The 3rd East Asia Youth Leadership Forum:

“Inter-Korean Peace & Reunification in Regional Context”

This forum is organized to help participants consider the ongoing division of the Korean peninsular in historical and regional context. Speakers will examine the past and current positions of the countries historically involved in the conflict and to evaluate potential South Korean actions and diplomatic strategies that could prove effective in improving the situation.

In this two day forum and workshop, youth from South Korea and from around the world will come together to consider how the potential for greater awareness of the international dynamics in NE Asia could produce better diplomatic solutions to the long standing conflict between North and South Korea. The forum will include lectures by outstanding experts and also will provide opportunities for participants to work together in research groups, with other thoughtful and capable youth, focused on making a better world possible.


1. Introduction

The next generation in NE Asia are facing challenges and opportunities born of a rapidly globalizing world, climate change and the rise of Internet connectivity and some other critical issues the current world faces to. It is in this context that the Asia Institute Internships, The Asia Institute and the Korea Center for Digital Humanities at Sookmyung Women’s University and will host a forum for teenagers from South Korea, and throughout East Asia, in which they can gather to discuss in earnest the various issues that the world faces, and while interacting with renowned experts in related fields, and additionally come up with their own proposals for a better world, for themselves and future generations. This unique event can serve to help, in a critical moment in young people’s lives, to encourage them to become global leaders.


2. Objectives of the Forum

To give thoughtful university and high school students first-hand experience in participating in a world-class international forum, thereby allowing them to grasp the significance of the international context to a degree not often possible in a classroom. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to express their opinions on important policy issues in a serious debate.
The opportunity is provided to listen to lectures by world-renowned experts, both online and offline, thereby gaining new insights into possible approaches and various ways to analyze current global challenges; to actively participate in debates concerning the most recent developments into a broad range of fields from politics and economics to technology and culture.

The long term goal of these events is establish an ever broader international network that includes committed students from other countries and schools throughout Asia for the purpose of building a brighter future for all.

With these objectives in mind, the Asia Institute Internships has organized and the Korea Center for Digital Humanities at Sookmyung Women’s University and The Asia Institute have sponsored this international forum for thoughtful and committed youth dedicated to making a difference.

We welcome participants from inside Korea and around the world who are ready to meet this challenge. We will do our best to launch you on a successful path towards leadership in politics, economics, arts, academia, technology and diplomacy.


Speakers will be anounced after confirmation. We are trying to invite internationally recognized and specialized Scholars on North Korean Study and this region for this event.
